What You Need to Know

How You Can Take Action

  • Ask Questions:

    • Who is leading my care team?

    • What are their qualifications and training?

  • Review Consent Forms:

    • Carefully examine who is listed as the consenting provider for your procedure.

    • Use this time to ask questions, as it may be the only direct interaction you have with your healthcare provider.

  • Check Provider Badges:

    • Look at the badges of the healthcare team—this can provide important information about their name, role, and qualifications.

    • If something is unclear, don’t hesitate to ask for clarification.

  • Stay Engaged:

    • Understand your treatment options.

    • Verify the involvement of qualified physicians in your care.

  • Advocate for Transparency:

    • Share your experiences to promote better practices in healthcare.

    • Support policies that ensure provider transparency. In the last several years, nearly half of the states have prioritized patient safety and clarity in health care settings by introducing legislation that ensures health care professionals provide clear and accurate information about their qualifications and education level. In fact, Tennessee, Georgia, Oregon, and Indiana have all signed into law legislation that prohibits non-physicians from using medical specialty titles and ensures patients are not confused about who is providing their care.

    • Contact your state representative & senator urging them to support truth and transparency in your healthcare and stop title misappropriation.
